Welcome to everyone--young or old, experienced or beginner!  Please join us for a fun afternoon of international folk dancing.  We meet Sundays from 2 to 4 pm in the beautiful Plaza Arts theater (it has a wood floor for comfortable dancing) in historic downtown Carrollton.

Join us for International Folk Dancing on Sunday, March 16 at the Plaza Arts Center. Teaching at 2:00 PM, followed by request dancing until 4:30 PM. $5.00 per person, cash only.

Party Time!

We will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and March birthdays this week, so bring your snacks or beverage to share, and wear your green! Karen will be another year younger.

Gary will be teaching Baztan-Dantza this Sunday at the 2:00 time slot. Description, instructions and video are below.

Baztan-Dantza (BAHS-tahn DAHN-sah) is a traditional men's social dance from Navarre's Baztan Valley in the Basque region of Spain. Today women are sometimes allowed to join in. Many versions of this dance exist. This one was learned in Spain by Candi de Alaiza who presented it at the 1978 Mendocino Folklore Camp. In January of 1979, Dean and Nancy Linscott presented it at the Federation Institute in San Jose.

Later in the program , Marsha will be teaching Pravo Kopankso Horo from Bulgaria. Here is a preview of this dance.

These notes ©2021, Andrew Carnie. Taught by Yves Moreau at the virtual World Spring Camp in 2021. Originally taught back in the 1970s. Yves learned the dance in 1971 from a group in Gecovo in Razgrad District. The Kapanci are a group of people who locals say are descended from the original Bulgarian settlers to the region who came in the 5th Century CE. The term Kapanci probably is derived from "Na Kapki", which is the style of embroidery used by this group.

Found jacket – see the attachment above. It was left at the Plaza on March 2.

Anne is asking for volunteers to do a demo of Turkish dancing on March 22. We will run through them this Sunday during the dance time. Come out on Sunday to get the final details and location.

Here is a DropBox link to the two videos of the Turkish Suite we did last year.
